Demons don't die without a fight...

After destroying the demon Lucien, Braden—son of Belle Dam’s most powerful warlock, Jason Thorpe—doesn’t need the power of his witch eyes to see that everything in his life is turning against him: friends, family, and even his visions. When disturbing nightmares of Lucien’s return haunt him, Braden discovers that the simmering feud between the city’s two witch dynasties is fast approaching its explosive boiling point.

While struggling to come to terms with his attraction to Trey, Catherine Lansing’s son who should be his mortal enemy, a diabolical plan starts to unveil before Braden’s eyes. Young women are disappearing from Belle Dam, and as he investigates, Braden is forced to explore the dangerous unknown power within himself. But when the truth about his family is revealed, Braden must pay a terrible price

The review:

First off, I'd like to say: Happy New Year everyone!! I hope this is going to be a great year for all you guys out there and all you wishes and resolutions come true!
Now back to the review. When I picked up witch eyes (the first novel to the series) I loved it but when I tried to pester my best friend into reading it, she was put off by the gay romance in this book (not the she's homophobic or anything, but she seems to picture it a little too clearly, according to her). Personally I don't see the big deal, but if you don't like gay romance or don't like reading about it or whatever, then this book is NOT for you.

ANYWAYYY, this book picks off where the other one ends. Branden's killed Lucien, or so he thinks. First it's the dreams, which everyone dismisses as grief. Branden has horrible nightmares that leave his throat hoarse from screaming and even get his father, Jason Thorpe, concerned. Then he starts hearing him and catching glimpses of him and he knows he's not dead. That's also about the time girls starts disappearing.

One a side note, I have to say, when I picked up it's prequel it was the first time I'd read a gay romance novel and, since it's written in the 1st person, my mind kept picturing the female version of Branden and it took some effort to change it but halfway through the novel I got over it and well, my mind kept doing it now too. My point is, the romance between Trey and Branden is steaming and pretty spectacular at times but I also don't like how, just when Trey gets over the blind faith he has in his mum, Branden pulls away from him. Not to mention this whole Romeo and Juliet/star-crossed lovers thing is getting old.

The plot of this book is great and I love how it slowly escalates, how Branden gets to use more and more power, until Branden meets Grace and she rips out his power. He's granted the only thing he's wanted his whole life, normal eyes, on the worse possible moment. Although what truly surprised me was Grace's reaction to Branden. You'd think that she would help him but nooooo, she blamed him, started the feud because of him, and then proceeded to rip out his powers because of something that MIGHT'VE happened.

Also, what's up with Drew? Don't get me wrong, he's as awesome as it gets in this book but I don't get all the flirting with Branden from one side and the longing for Jade on the other and also WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN DREW AND TREY? They can't just throw that in there and then shut up about it! That's like dangling a truffle in front of my face, hinting at its brilliance, and then snatching it away!

ANYWAYYY, I absolutely LOATHE cliffhangers so this one left me a bad taste but I'll get over it fast enough. I can't wait for the next novel!!
